Lot's of great info here from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. PLEASE NOTE that while some cruises (closed loop that start and end in same U.S. city) only require a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID, it is strongly recommended that all U.S. citizens travel with a valid passport that does not expire for at least 6 months from the last day of planned travel.
